Companies are shifting towards influencer marketing via Instagram. Therefore, it is not surprising that more influencers (and potential influencers) are looking at how to authenticate themselves on Instagram.
Social Media Verification
Instagram is used by celebrities, politicians, sports stars, and other famous people around the world to communicate with each other. These famous individuals are able to distinguish themselves from the rest of the social media crowd. It’s the blue symbol that appears alongside the name or handle of an individual on their profile page. This tick ensures that you will appear at the top of search results, and can gain more influence on Instagram. Influencers are always interested in knowing how to confirm for verification on Instagram.
For the accounts I have on Twitter (@NealSchaffer), as well as Facebook (Neal Schaffer on Facebook), I am confirmed personally. However, I am still not confirmed on Instagram.
This doesn’t mean I haven’t gone through the steps necessary to be verified on Instagram. I already have and am now at the stage to submit the second of my applications. Please see the bottom of the post for more details. In the last few months, I have also been in touch with others who have been verified on Instagram. I will share some of my anecdotal tips based on those conversations. Before I get into the details about how to verify Instagram, I’d like to share my personal experiences regarding the process.
Although Facebook has been verifying accounts for some time, it is not clear how to do so. According to the social network, verification is not something you can request but something that you are provided with based on your popularity. Facebook has an application process that is hidden on its website and application. A friend of mine experienced this and told me: “Neal! Why don’t we submit an application to become certified through Facebook?” I was directed to a menu that allowed me to submit an application for verification. The application process asked for my web URL and information about works that I had published to apply for author status. After some time, I received confirmation.
How Twitter Democratized Verification
Not all users can be verified. This is the purpose of verification: celebrities are usually able to verify users, so you can be certain that you are working with the “real” company. Click Here to get more exclusive updates about Instagram. In Instagram’s upper right corner, they ask for verification. I’ll discuss this in the next section.
Verified badges are images that are displayed next to an Instagram account’s name to verify that it is authentic.
However, as influence has grown more democratic, it has also changed what is considered an “actor” and “notable publicly person”. Although Facebook kept the process secret, Twitter was most active in allowing verification requests to be made by anyone. In fact, Twitter even published a press release to make the process public for the entire world to see in 2016. According to a senior official at Twitter, the following is the current situation:
Tina Bhatnagar (Twitter’s vice-director for User Services), stated that “We are determined to make it easier for users to discover influencers, creators, and on Twitter, it is logical to allow people to submit verification applications.” We hope this opens up the possibility for more people to find amazing accounts that are worth following and allows creators and influencers to reach a wider audience.
Two years later, Twitter closed down these open verification apps:
Verification was meant to authenticate the identity of the user. However, it is being considered an endorsement or sign of importance. We are aware of the confusion caused by our actions and are looking for a solution. We have stopped general verifications while we work and will soon update you.
Twitter announced at the time of writing this post that verification applications will resume in 2021…
The current state of how to get verified on Instagram
Each social media site uses its own criteria to determine who can be verified. Even if they are owned by the same entity, each site uses different methods to verify who is verified. You can be famous on Facebook and still not be considered a celebrity elsewhere. How does one authenticate on Instagram? Instagram might have a strict process to determine if someone is famous or has enough fame to add an asterisk to their name.
It was claimed that Instagram didn’t properly monitor verifications and didn’t have a transparent, clear process like Twitter. It was rare or, at the very least, you had to be “in the know” to verify. An underground market existed where you could purchase verifications of Instagram for hundreds of dollars through contacts who worked for Facebook.
I am aware that companies tried to convince me to buy these, but I have not done this. Others purchased verifications for Instagram from other sources. This is in contrast to Facebook and Twitter, which require verification requests from the beginning. Instagram now has an application system to verify users. Anyone can now request verification. Based on their background, fan following, content, and other parameters, they are either granted or denied their blue tick.
The process is simple and can be accessed using Instagram’s Instagram app which is available for iOS or Android. However, there have been reports that some Android users are having trouble accessing the screen. Users who are unable to access the screen, as I will explain, may have private accounts or not enough followers, or live in an area that doesn’t have verification. You should be there.
“Request Verification” The “Request verification” option is available in the Account section of the Settings menu within Instagram. You will be asked to enter your username, complete name, the name that you are known by (if applicable), and the type category. They are currently:
If you are a citizen, legitimate, or company ID holder and have a business profile, you will need to upload a photo from your identification card. Once you have completed this, click on “send”. This will allow you to be verified and put you in the running for being authenticated by Instagram. In fact, Instagram announced this open process in 2018. After the application has been reviewed, Instagram will get back to you within 30 days. Some applicants had to wait several days for Instagram to process their application and give a reply either in the form of a blue tick or rejection. If I was denied, it would be precisely at the end of the 30 day period. I had already noted this on my calendar when my application was submitted.
Another way is to use a triage strategy to verify Instagram accounts. Some accounts are rejected immediately, while others may be placed on a waitinglist until the very last moment. This suggests to me that they are comparing their apps and taking the same percentage each day. Although this is speculation, I have found it to be true in my own experience.
How will you know if your application was rejected or accepted?
Following the completion of the above process, some of my Instagram users asked me this question. After submitting my application, I received the following information in my Instagram notifications: Likes, comments, and follows.
Instagram stated that verification can be requested again after 30 days, as I already mentioned. I’ve applied twice, and I will revise the blog post if they contact me.
How to get verified on Instagram
It is evident that the process for applying and the verification system to get the blue tick has made it harder to obtain the desired status. A lot of background checks are required to verify a person’s identity. What are the essential requirements for the verification?
There have been exceptions, but it is clear that you must be an official figure or celebrity or athlete or have a brand with international fame. Second, you must adhere to the Instagram community rules and terms of service. Here is where screening begins. It’s a smart idea to make sure your Instagram account doesn’t violate any of these guidelines.
- Only upload your images and videos.
- Respect everyone on Instagram. Please don’t leave any abusive comments or captions.
- Do not send spam messages to anyone (i.e. Comment spam or automatically DMs
- Do not put up with nudity.
It’s the section that says “Foster authentic, genuine interaction” in Instagram’s guidelines for the community. This could have the greatest impact on those who tried to manipulate the system.
Keep our reputation spam-free by not creating followers, likes, or followers through repeated comments or posts, or by repeatedly contacting people without their consent for commercial purposes.
You should immediately stop engaging in any of these activities, and wait for a while before applying to the job again. This guide will show you how to avoid making mistakes on Instagram.
Instagram also stated what account content is required to be eligible for the blue confirmation. These guidelines state that an account must be authentic (a real person who is registered as a brand or business) and unique (accounts can only be created for one brand or person), complete (a full bio, profile picture, and at least one blog post) but not able (account must have been recognized and is often searched by users).
Create a complete and public Instagram profile
What does this mean in terms of the vetting procedure? This means that you must follow these steps and ensure that the following items have been verified.
- A public account
- A real username, except if you are an established celebrity known under another name
- A profile image (or logo, if you are a brand) that is authentic.
- Complete bio
- An Instagram history. I believe that the more you stay on Instagram the better.
Your bio should contain a link to your website. I currently use the Tailwind Smart. Bio (affiliate link) in my bios to direct users to different URLs for different images.

Your Instagram History
This is what I mean. How long have you been an active Instagram user? You won’t be verified if you join Instagram yesterday. Social networks are competing with each other and want their users to spend more time on them. Your account is more likely to be rejected if you are more active on Instagram (in terms of post count)
Amazingly, as I was writing this blog, I received an update via Instagram. It was when I logged in to the account. This will allow accounts with a large number of users (see comments below on community size), to display the date that you joined Instagram. I was a member from May 31, 2011, 2011. The notice, details, and other information will be available to all when Instagram tries to promote authentic profiles, rather than trying to identify fake accounts.
Fake accounts using similar names
Instagram will now include “Former Usernames”, a feature that is not accidental, in the bios of users with many followers.
Social media networks had to verify celebrities in the beginning because there were many fake profiles on the sites that took the place of real accounts. They could verify that celebrities are real and ensure users receive genuine content. Fake celebrities could only be impersonated by them. However, it is possible to search for your name online to check if someone pretends to know you. It is true! I found someone trying to portray me.
After I applied for verification, the fake profile was found and reported to authorities. I was denied the following day. This could have affected verification. It is unlikely, given the time period. If there are many people posing as you, it could be one of the verification steps.
Are you often in the news or highly searched for?
Googled will increase your chances of being verified if you are a well-known individual. You don’t have to be sought after or mentioned often in the media. However, you can make sure that you are easily found on the internet. Use keywords, hashtags, and other search-friendly elements to make sure you are found as quickly as possible by search engines.
It could increase your chances of getting an official sticker if you are featured in the news. Because Instagram is more likely than other platforms to recognize you and confirm that you are a person of note, this is why official stickers can be earned.
It is possible to help if you don’t have an extensive online presence by making sure you are visible online. This can include posting more frequently on your blog, optimizing YouTube videos, and uploading them more often. You should also ensure that you are regularly using other social media platforms. It is possible to suddenly post a lot of content if you haven’t been using it often. You might notice a difference in the verification process if you start slowly.
Instagram Community Size
When I shared my Instagram article about how to verify, many people thought that there should be a minimum number of followers in order to verify. A few mentioned that they had heard of verified Instagram users whose following was hundreds of thousands. It makes sense since this is another verification tool that could be used.
It was interesting to see that there was an individual who commented on the previous post but then deleted it shortly thereafter (don’t ask why, but he could have become overwhelmed by inquiries). He was 44,000 followers and advised me that I keep trying because he was verified. It could be a guideline because all verified influencers have at least 44,000 followers.

Engage with Instagram Content
It is important to authenticate the content that you post on your website. While you cannot predict how your content will perform, you can make sure that your content is well-written and gets noticed. You will need to consider what your blog should be about and show your expertise or work in that field. You could also publish tutorials and reviews if you are skilled in makeup. Engagement with Instagram Audience
What if you post content to Instagram and no one notices? Why would Instagram want to confirm a person from a small town that isn’t thriving? Although I have a blog post on how to increase Instagram engagement if this is your case, it is not necessary.
Engaging with your audience means identifying a topic of interest or content buckets that you audience will be interested in. This will increase their engagement. You must use your personality to promote and build your website. However, it is important that you take the time to make sure your website is consistent and truthful.
It’s a common saying that “Jack of all trades, master of none” is the best way to get verified and acknowledged by Instagrammers. After you have clearly explained what you are doing, you must make sure that your content is unique. Engaging in different ways with your followers will help you do this. You can do the same thing on similar platforms to it to make new friends and gain a better understanding of how others do things.
Participating in an organization will allow you to grow. Engaging with your followers is also important. It is not possible to get the attention of your followers with “nice pictures” comments or excessive liking.
To ensure your posts are seen by as many people as possible, plan your posts around the most active hours on Instagram. Research shows that Instagram posts that occur in the evening are more popular than those that happen during the weekends. This is because most users are busy working between 9 and 5, Monday through Friday, and don’t have the time to use Instagram during that time.
